Kia Hiwa Ra! Kia Hiwa Ra!

People tell us Uenuku Iwi population is 40,000 strong.

The time is now to stand up and be counted. UCT needs its registered adult members to tell us the number of children in your whanau. Why? According to Statistics NZ, Uenuku Iwi population is recorded with other Whanganui Iwi as Te Ati Haunui-a-Paparangi. The 2013 census had Te Ati Haunui-a-Paparangi combined iwi population as 11,691. That can’t be right!

Can you help us by telling us how many children you have? No names just number of children.

Please email your name and the number of children to

UCT recently gained majority support from its current membership register to negotiate the treaty settlement claims for all uri of Tamakana, Tamahaki and Uenuku. UCT is now in the process of establishing an efficient and user-friendly Iwi Membership Registration System so that we can keep our people better informed, so they can participate and vote on iwi affairs. The new registration system will link whakapapa, provide the opportunity for useful information to be captured like hapu, marae, occupation, land blocks, and of course children, our future beneficiaries.

This process will be rolled out early in the New Year so stay tuned whanau and watch this space.
