Interested in helping in a Civil Defence emergency? Here’s a heads-up from Chris Kumeroa … The next Civil Defence Foundation Course will be run in Whanganui on Friday 23 March. This course has been developed for anyone who could work in a Coordination Centre in response to an emergency. It is part of a national framework of training and aims to provide an introduction to the Coordination Centre environment. It is presented by local CDEM (Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management) staff with recent Coordination Centre experience, and is the first step on the learning pathway for those wanting to learn more and help coordinate the community response to disasters. Target Audience: Those people who could work within the Coordination Centre or Civil Defence Centre environment.

Integrated Training Framework (ITF) provides professional development courses for anyone who could be employed in a coordination centre during an emergency.
Foundation is the first-level ‘ITF Foundation Course’. This is a four-hour interactive training session that introduces the coordinated incident management system (CIMS) principles, structure and terminology, as well as the context of civil defence emergencies. This basic course is designed for anyone who may work in a coordination centre, including support staff. On successful completion of the ITF Foundation Course, participants can be credited with unit standard 17279 Demonstrate knowledge of the coordinated incident management system (CIMS).
