Mākōtuku Pure Capital Education Scholarship

The Te Ara Tupua Trust, in collaboration with international investment advisory firm Pure Capital, is pleased to announce the reopening of applications for the Mākōtuku Pure Capital Education Scholarship. This opportunity is extended to registered beneficiaries of the Uenuku Charitable Trust who are currently pursuing education at any level.

The scholarship aims to empower descendants of Uenuku, Tamakana, and Tamahaki by fostering increased engagement and accomplishment in education. Ultimately, this initiative contributes to the enhancement of capabilities to support the development of whānau, hapū, and Iwi.

Applications for the 2024 scholarships will be accepted from Wednesday, April 10th, to Tuesday, May 21st. We appreciate your patience as we transition to a new online application process. To begin your application, registration with MāoriMe online is required. If you haven’t already registered, please refer to the  video tutorial for assistance. 

Once registered, you can apply online through Maori Me.

We extend our gratitude for your dedication and effort in completing your applications. The Scholarship Committee eagerly anticipates reviewing them. Successful candidates will be notified shortly after the closing date, Tuesday, May 21st.


Preference will be given to students who have some, or all, of the following:

  • Proven academic merit
  • Excellent attendance record
  • A commitment to tikanga Māori and te reo Māori
  • A commitment to community
  • Are interested in supporting iwi economic, environmental and social development and the hapū and whānau of Uenuku, Tamakana and Tamahaki.

Scholarships available are:

  1. Primary school – $100
  2. Secondary school – $200
  3. Tertiary – $1000.

Criteria

Applicants MUST be:

  1. A registered member of UCT
  2. Confirmed as enrolled at a primary, secondary or tertiary institution
  3. One application per household
